Key Details and Ideas: Students will learn to identify and analyze key details, main ideas, and supporting information in texts. They will develop skills to distinguish important information, summarize content, and make connections between ideas presented in the reading materials.
Craft and Structure: Students will explore the craft and structure of various texts, including understanding how authors organize their writing, the use of literary elements (e.g., plot, characters, setting), and how text features contribute to comprehension. They will also learn to recognize and analyze different text structures.
Integration of Knowledge and Ideas: This course will focus on integrating knowledge and ideas by encouraging students to connect information across different texts and subject areas. Students will compare and contrast information, draw inferences, and use evidence from texts to support their interpretations.
Text Complexity and Purpose: Students will engage with a range of texts of varying complexity appropriate for the third grade level. They will learn to adapt their reading strategies based on the purpose of reading, whether it be for gaining information, understanding a story, or analyzing an argument.
Writing Techniques: This course will introduce fundamental writing techniques, including sentence structure, grammar, vocabulary development, and spelling.
